Check out some of these statistics and see what they mean for your business and your marketing planning. Some figures are New Zealand only, some are worldwide. Don’t get too hung up on the actual numbers as they will be out of date in a flash, but do look for themes that are relevant to you and your customers.
Fun fact: Around 82 percent of Kiwis are active social media users and this is on the up.
What does this mean for you? It is a good idea for your business to have a social media presence. We recommend putting some thought and research into what channel/s your audience use, who will manage the pages and what you want to achieve from being on social media (objectives and success measures).
Fun fact: Most people on social media access it on a mobile device. In fact, phones are most users ‘first’ screens.
What does this mean for you? Just because you might be sitting at a desktop planning and posting, your audience probably isn’t. So, think more imagery less words as people are looking on a small screen. Think captions (or turn captioning on) as people may have their device on silent. And think about what info people need as they are out and about.

What does this mean for you? That’s a mighty big audience just waiting to hear from you. Never before has it been so easy to reach so many people – reaching the right people and then converting them to customers is another story mind you!

What does this mean for you? Again, you need to be on social media and you need to get the mix of entertain, educate and engage just right so people follow you and when they are ready to buy, they like and trust your brand.

What does this mean for you? Get building that ecommerce site. There are plenty of affordable ecommerce (and even DIY) platforms for you to use, so stop thinking it costs too much or it will take too long!
